Obituary WASHINGTON--Leland J. Sawyer, 84, of Washington, died at 7:25 AM on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. He was born on January 14, 1923 in St. John's, Illinois to Raymond J. and Beulah B. House Sawyer. He married Ruth L. Daffron on December 24, 1945 in Pinckneyville, Illinois; she survives. Also surviving is 1 daughter, Joyce Reavley of Washington, IL; 1 son, Bruce Sawyer of Peoria, IL; 5 grandsons, Matthew Faubel of Springfield, IL, Daniel Sawyer of Anchorage, AK, Michael (Kortney) Sawyer of Delavan, IL, Harold (Katherine) Reavley of Havana, IL, and Kenny Reavley of Las Vegas, NV; and 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Leland was a staff sergeant in the US Air Force during WWII as a tailgunner on a B-29 bomber serving in the Western Pacific. He was a Research Machinist for Caterpillar Tractor Co. for 36 years. Leland was a charter member of First Baptist Church in Washington. He loved collecting antiques, buying and selling them as a hobby. Leland thoroughly enjoyed gardening and puttering in the yard. A private graveside service will be held at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
