Obituary WASHINGTON - Lawrence A. "Boots" Karcher, 96 of Washington, IL, died at 9:55 am Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at his home. Born on November 8, 1914 in McLeansboro, IL to Thomas Ludwig and Anna Catherine Lorenz Karcher, he married Doris Elizabeth Frey on May 29, 1947 in Piopolis, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Mary (Jim) Kerrigan of East Peoria, IL, Don Karcher of Oak Park, IL, Diane (Kevin) Weber of Washington, IL, and Larry (Joni) Karcher of Morton, IL, 2 sisters, Dorothy Cox of California and Odelia Karcher of McLeansboro, IL, 1 brother, Jake (Irma) Karcher of East Peoria, IL, 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters. A US Army Veteran, serving during World War II, he was a member of the VFW Post #9016 and the American Legion Post #100 for more than 64 years, both located in Washington. Boots worked in the Shipping Department at Hiram Walker Distillery until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Washington, where he served as an usher for many years. He also was a past member of the Knights of Columbus Father John Menco Council #6707. A funeral mass will be at 11 am Friday, February 11, 2011 at St. Patrick Church in Washington. Father Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, where a prayer service will begin at 7 pm. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton. Service FEB 11. 11:00 AM St. Patrick Catholic Church 705 E. Jefferson Street Washington, IL, US
