Larry L. Spurgeon, 86, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka.

He was born December 22, 1936 in Oak Hill, IL to the late Howard S. and Erma Stober Spurgeon.  He married Joyce A. Green on August 2, 1959 in Peoria.  She preceded him in death on July 11, 2003.  He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Luke Spurgeon.

Surviving are one son, Brent Spurgeon; two daughters, Ellen Fitzpatrick, Jane (Nick) Orr; seven grandchildren, Emily (Tim) Browning, Ben (Karina) Orr, Molly (Tyler) Lage, Kelly (Thomas) Payne, Katie (Eli) Allgood, Lydia (Jake) Hirstein, Brian Spurgeon; twenty two great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Olen and Melford.

Larry graduated from East Peoria High School and Bradley University.  He served with the Seabees in the US Navy Reserves.  He worked as a self employed home builder in the Washington area before retiring.

He was an avid fast pitch softball pitcher for many years.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, his cat, and his best friend, Bev Mauschbaugh.  He will be greatly missed.

Cremation has been accorded.  A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
