Kayton G. Heavrin, 88, of Washington, passed away peacefully at his home at 10:37am Friday, March 3, 2023.
He was born May 27, 1934 in Hecla, South Dakota to Harlan and Marie Guild Heavrin. He married Myrna "Kay" Livengood on July 16, 1979. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, LuAl Berry and Goldie Duckworth.
Surviving are two sons, Bret and Timothy "Rudy" Heavrin; two step-children, Brett (Susan) Hensey, and Nikki (Jim) Lind; nine grandchildren, Katie Heavrin, Casey (Ryan) Pfeifer, Kyle (Casey) Heavrin, Kelsey (Chris) Suarez, Wesley (Nichole) Lind, Melissa (Patrick) Callahan, Jennifer (Kyle) VonHolten, Grey Hensey, Cheyenne Hensey; eleven great-grandchildren, Brendan, Scarlett, and Manny Suarez, Cooper and Crew Heavrin, Simon and Gwen Pfeifer, Clara Lind, Cecilia and June Callahan, Martin VonHolten; one sister, Suzanne Penman; and several nieces and nephews.
Kayton graduated from Washington Community High School in 1952, where he played football for Goldie Babcook and basketball for Dick Van Scyoc. After graduation, he began his Caterpillar, Inc. career as an electrical apprentice while also serving in the Navy reserves from 1952 to 1960. In 1960, he spent 7 years as plant manager of the REDCO facility in Washingon, Illinois. In 1967, he returned to Caterpillar, Inc. in the electric power generation division retiring in 1994, after 35 years of service. While at Caterpillar he traveled to over 30 countries meeting with employees, dealers, and customers around the globe.
Kayton enjoyed boating, water skiing and hunting with family and friends. He also served on Central Grade School's board of education for 15 years. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, building and flying model airplanes, fishing trips to Canada with his sons and several close friends, was a member of Washington Community High School's chain gang for over 50 years, President of Finger Lakes fishing club and a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
Kayton always had a kind heart and was generous with his time; he would always go the extra mile to ensure everyone had a great time. Kayton was a loving father and husband who was very proud of his family and loved them all very much.
Cremation has been accorded. To honor Kayton's memory, a celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 14 at 10:30 a.m. at Countryside Banquet Facility in Washington, IL. We invite anyone who knew him to attend and remember his wonderful life. Inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to his church.
