Obituary WASHINGTON--Kathryn M. (Shipley) Whitehead, 58, of Washington, died at 1:41 PM on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria after an 18-year battle with cancer. She was born on May 25, 1949 in Carlinville, Illinois to Harold and Kathleen Shipley. She married Gary J. Whitehead on December 11, 1970 in Palmyra, Illinois; he survives. Also surviving are her parents, Harold A. (Kathleen J.) Shipley of Carlinville, IL; 2 sons, Joe and Jim Whitehead and her daughter, Angie (John) Kern, all of Washington, IL; 1 step-grandson, Noah McCabe of Washington; 2 brothers, David H. Shipley of Houston, TX, and Aaron J. Shipley of Carlinville, IL. She was preceded in death by her grandparents. Kathryn was a Telephone Operator and Police Dispatcher for Bradley University in Peoria, where she worked for 14 years. Kathryn taught voice lessons for many years and was a member of Washington Christian Church, where she sang in the choir. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 23 at Washington Christian Church. Pastor Jeff Browning will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, April 22 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Burial will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton, IL.
