Obituary
Washington - Katherine "June" Queen, 91, of Washington died on Saturday August 9, 2014 at 9:58 AM at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. She was born June 6, 1923 in Bruce, IL to Charles L. and Eugenia L. Peadro Erwin. She married William Oliver Queen on July 12, 1941 in Shelbyville, IL. He preceded her in death on September 13, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Charles, Leonard, John and Robert.
June is survived by five children, Janet Curtis of Washington, Gail Gormley of East Peoria, William Steve Queen of West Monroe, Louisiana, Major Christine Queen USAF Ret. of East Peoria, and Gordon (Susan) Queen of Evergreen, CO, seven grandchildren, Annette, Marty, Alaina, Aindrea, Susanne, Robert and Andrew, nine great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
June was a 1939 graduate of Sullivan High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society. June worked at several area businesses including Smiths Variety in Sunnyland, Sunnyland Bakery, Peoria Top Value Store, and she last worked at Sunnyland JoAnn Fabric, retiring in 1981. She was the past president of TOPS and also a member for over 40 years. She was a member of Sunnyland Christian Church for 67 years.
There will be a funeral service for June at 11:30 AM on Saturday August 16, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Roberta Shultz will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sunnyland Christian Church or Northern Tazewell Rescue Squad.
