Obituary EAST PEORIAa"Katharine R. Oakes, 64, of East Peoria, died at 3:28 AM on Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. Born on August 19, 1943 to Richard and Katharine Bailey Stearns in Boston, MA, she married William E. Oakes on December 15, 1962 in Stockbridge, MA. He survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Marissa Thompson of Surprise, AZ and Diane (Russ) Pielecha of East Otto, NY; 2 brothers, Bruce (Cindy) Stearns of Plano, TX and Robert Stearns of Waltham, MA; 2 sisters, Leslie Morison of Cedar City, UT and Susan Stearns of NH; 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Katharine was self-employed as a tax preparer in Glendale, AZ, and later worked at Gardner Refrigeration in Phoenix, AZ. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and attended Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington. Katharine always put others before herself. A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, October 22, 2007 at Sunnyland Christian Church in Washington. The Rev. Kathryn Frus will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10-11 AM on Monday at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
