Obituary Washington- Karolyn E. Edwards, 59, of Washington died at 1:30 PM on Friday, September 12, 2008, at Loyola Medical Center in Chicago, IL. She was born on July 22, 1949 in Davenport, IA to Willie and Elaine Malmanger Stine. She married Richard "Dick" T. Edwards on December 5, 1970 in Davenport, IA. He survives. Also surviving are her mother, Elaine Stine of Davenport, IA, three children, Rich Jr., Jeff, and Carol (Kurt) Smeltzer, all of Washington, and four grandsons, Kyle, Justin, Caleb, and Josiah Smeltzer. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Stine Jr. Karol retired from Yeoman's Distributing Company in 1998 after she was diagnosed with cancer. Some of her ambitions over the last 10 years include Project Linus of which she was Tri-County coordinator of Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties over the last 2 years. Her team gave out over 3,000 blankets to comfort children in sickness and trauma. She was also heavily involved in support groups for the American Cancer Society. Even though she was battling cancer herself, she was always willing to serve and support others. Her strong belief for Christ led her to influence the need of Christ in the lives of others. She was a member at New Life Christian Church in Morton. Some of her ministries include the Peoria Rescue Mission, Marriage Enrichment, Women's Ministries, Stephen's Ministries, and several other volunteer organizations. The most important things in Karol's life were her family and friends. Services for Karol will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 11 AM with visitation one half hour prior at New Life Christian Church in Morton. Pastor Dave Troyer will officiate. A visitation will also be held on Tuesday, September 16 from 4:30-8 PM at the church. Karol has requested that her funeral be a celebration of her life, so please bring a song in your heart and a smile on your face. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
