Obituary
WASHINGTON-Karen Elizabeth Salsman, 63, of Washington, IL, died at 9:17 pm Sunday, February 21, 2010 at her home. She was born June 24, 1946 in Richland, Missouri to Robert and Rosalyn Deaton. She married Bill Salsman on December 22, 1964 in Washington, IL. He survives.
Also surviving are: her parents, Robert and Rosalyn Deaton, one son, Michael (Laura) Salsman, three grandchildren, Ashley Hertz, Patrick Salsman and Jessica Salsman all of Washington; one brother, Jim (Linda) Deaton of Washington; two nephews, Chad Deaton of Washington and Ryan Deaton of Bartlett, IL; one step-nephew, Ryan Kroll of Portland, OR; one step-niece, Lindsey (Tyler) Schwend of Manhattan, KS and one great-niece, Kayleigh Deaton of Washington.
Karen worked as a redemption clerk for Top Value Stamps until Michael was born. She babysat many children in her home for many years. Karen worked as a cook at two daycare businesses: Grace Lutheran Church and St. Mark's Lutheran Church both in Washington. She especially enjoyed children so daycare work was great for her. Karen also enjoyed collecting dolls, church, fishing, camping, pets, traveling, canning, and cooking.
Karen was president of WHIP (Washington Helps Its People) food pantry for over 20 years.
Karen trusted Jesus as her Savior when she was 16 years old. She was a member of Twin Oaks Missionary Baptist Church in East Peoria, IL. She enjoyed going on church building trips to work in the kitchen. Even after she became disabled, she would take pictures and videos of the work progress.
A funeral service will be at 3 pm Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Rev. Tom Myers will officiate. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
