Obituary June Katheryn Violet Sandberg, 92, of Snyder Village died Monday, October 19, 2009 at 2:55 PM at Snyder Village Health Center. June was born June 26, 1917 in Andover, IL, a daughter of Carl Arnold and Esther Anna Brodd Seaholm. She graduated from Parker High School in Chicago in 1935. She was a 1939 diploma graduate of Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses, Moline and a 1955 graduate of Boston University with her bachelor's of science degree in nursing. She took coursework towards her master's degree in nursing at the University of Iowa. June wed Carl A. Sandberg on June 9, 1956 in Andover, IL. He preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 1977. She taught medical-surgical nursing for many years at Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses in Moline and ended her teaching career at both Marycrest College and Black Hawk College. She then focused on geriatric nursing at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo until her retirement. A life-long devout Lutheran, she was currently a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a former member of the Andover Historical Society. Survivors include her children, Margaret (Loren) Swanson, East Peoria; and Arnie Sandberg, Orion; granddaughter Abigail, East Peoria; step grandchildren, Vince (Emily Rubel) Swanson, Chicago; Nate (Melissa) Swanson and Kyle (Cari) Swanson both from Washburn; five step great-grandchildren; sisters Adeleine M. Wiemken, East Moline; Marian L. Zeise, Chicago Ridge; brother Reuel A. "Bud" (Elizabeth) Seaholm, Rockwall, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceding June in death were her parents and husband and an infant sister Frances Jean. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Snyder Village Health Center, especially the caregivers of Hall 1, for being a second family to June and for their loving care to her. Memorial visitation will be Thursday from 5-7pm at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, 2075 Washington Road, Washington, IL. A memorial service will be 11am Friday, Pastor John N. Bates officiating, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 200 N. Main Street, Washington, IL, with additional visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial of June's cremated remains will be at 4:00 pm Friday at Andover Cemetery in Andover Illinois. Memorials may be made to Snyder Village Health Center, Metamora, IL.
