Obituary

Joyce Majors, 75, of Sheffield Village, Ohio, formerly of East Peoria, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, September 15, 2025.

She was born on November 7, 1949, in Peoria, IL, to the late Isaac and Margaret Young. She married Joseph Louis Majors in East Peoria on April 12, 1969. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2000. She was also preceded in death by one brother, David Young; and one great-grandchild.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Rocky) Younger and Kelli (Greg) Hacker; three grandchildren, Michaela (Alex) Gonzales, Zachary Lawrence and Branden (Dez) Gettings; three great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; two sisters, Vicki (Margie) Benson and Sherry (Rick) Elsey; and one brother, Jeff (Linda) Young.

Joyce was a graduate of East Peoria Community High School in 1967. She worked as a nurse and homemaker for most of her years, also working at the Tazewell County Courthouse for 13 years before retiring.

She lived in multiple states in her life and was a world traveler, visiting multiple countries being part of a traveling group of wonderful friends.

Her world revolved around her family and friends with several cousins, brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was focused less on quantity and more on quality of her relationships and was well-loved by everyone. She had a Christian, Southern Baptist Affiliation and was as faithful as they come. She loved to dance and listen to music of all kinds, including her Baptist hymnals. Her faithful companion was her dog, Georgy. She was a Kansas City Chiefs fan and was known for her avid sweet tooth and love of snack cakes, donuts and her favorite Pepsi.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 19, at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Midwest Affiliate or the ALPHA-1 Foundation.
