WASHINGTONa"Joseph M. Mahony, 74, of Washington, died after battling Alzheimer's Disease for 12 years at 8:05 AM on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Snyder Village in Metamora.
Born September 19, 1935 in Evanston, IL to Joseph M. and Eugenia "Jean" Boller Mahony, Sr., he married Mary "Betty" Bradford on August 20, 1960 in Peoria. She preceded him in death on February 19, 1996.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Jean B. Mahony of Chicago, Ann E. Mahony and Megan (Don) Swearingen, both of Washington; 2 sons, David J. (Dee) Mahony of Pekin and Bradford (Ashley) Mahony of Washington; 6 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Josh, Chelsey, Brandon, Katie, and Reese; 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Daniel.
Joseph was a US Air Force Veteran.
He was self-employed as an accountant and financial advisor with Joseph Mahony and Company for over 40 years.
He was a member of the Washington Rotary Club for over 30 years, the Polar Bear Club, served as a Police Commissioner in Washington, and was an Evans Scholar.
Joseph found great joy in travelling the world, was a well-respected bartender, and was well-known for hosting crazy parties and the Travelling Bath Tub.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, November 21 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. The Rev. Fr. Joseph P. Donton will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Friday, November 20, with a prayer service being held at 6:45 PM, at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
