John "Pat" Dougherty, 72, of Washington, passed away at 12:55 am Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
Pat was born September 29, 1949, in Springfield to the late James P. and Ruth P. Stevens Dougherty. He married Teresa Fuertges in Bradford on February 12, 1972.
Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Teresa. He is also survived by their children, Joseph (Katie) Dougherty, Molly (James) Colli, Maureen (Scott) Leathers, and Katie (Sharbel) Rantisi; eight grandchildren, Drew (Aili), Brenna (Hayden), Declan, Genevieve, Isaiah, Finley, Sloane, and Dorothy; one great-granddaughter on the way; his siblings, Mike (David) Dougherty, Thomas (Cathy) Dougherty, Mary Jo Flynn, Kathleen Matheny, sister-in-law, Patti Dougherty; Teresa's siblings, Dan Fuertges, Mary Ann Soszynski, Jerry (Judy) Fuertges & Ed Fuertges, as well as two aunts, one uncle, and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law, Julia Fuertges, father-in-law, Bernard Fuertges, brother-in-law, Tim Flynn and sister-in-law, Cis Fuertges.
Pat served in the Air National Guard and went on to a career with Caterpillar. He retired from purchasing at Cat in 2009, after 39 years of service. He was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and Fr. John Menco Council of the Knights of Columbus. Pat loved golfing, swimming, spending winters in warmer places, and devouring books. His family was his number one priority, and he cherished time spent with them, especially his grandkids.
A memorial Mass will be held at 3 pm Monday, September 12, 2022, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Visitation will be two hours prior to Mass at the church. Private inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Church Sanctuary Fund or Illinois CancerCare Foundation.
