Obituary John "Jack" S. McGlaughlin, 77, of Washington, died at 8:00 AM, on Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his residence in Washington, IL. He was born on September 13, 1928 in Akron, Ohio to Earl and Bernice Campbell McGlaughlin. He married Joan Weaver on January 15, 1949 in East Moline; Joan survives. Surviving are 3 daughters, Becky McGlaughlin of Washington, Jenny (Ivan) Rieke of Congerville, Marsha (Burt) Burbidge of Flower Mound, TX, 2 sons, Fred McGlaughlin and Mike (Karen) McGlaughlin, both of Washington; and one brother, Fred (Joy) McGlaughlin of Moline. Jack was the proud grandfather of 21 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, and one great-granddaughter. Jack worked as a blacksmith for the Rock Island Lines and TP&W Railroad. He also worked at LeTourneau's and as a Steamfitter for Local #353 in Peoria. In 1998 Jack was the recipient of Washington's "Good Neighbor" award. He was a dedicated Scout Lead for Troop #168, with 8 of his scouts achieving Eagle Scout status. As a young man he boxed in the Golden Gloves and trained many from the area in the Silver Gloves program. Jack was a member and served as a Grand Knight in the Knight of Columbus Fr. John Menco Council #6707 in Washington. He also started the KC men's choir at St. Patrick's, where he was a member for 54 years. He was an active member of the Cursillo Family. Jack was an avid golfer and wood carver. He loved life, served many, and will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Joseph P. Donton will officiate with Jack's Prelude music starting at 10:45 AM. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Deiters Funeral home in Washington with Rosary at 7:00 PM. Burial will be Private in Glendale Cemetery in Washington. Service AUG 23. 10:45 AM St. Patrick Catholic Church 705 E. Jefferson Street Washington, IL, US
