Obituary

Obituary East Peoria - John B. McCabe, 93, of East Peoria, died at 5:42 PM on Monday December 10, 2012 at his residence. He was born in Creal Springs, IL on April 24, 1919 to Thomas Matthew and Mary Catherine Zimmer McCabe. On January 20, 1947 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Bione in Herrin, IL. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2010 in East Peoria. Also preceding him in death were two infant daughters, one grandson; Anthony Roger Pohl, three sisters and two brothers. John is survived by nine children; Raymond (Eileen) McCabe of Dahinda, Angela (Roger) Pohl of York, SC, Phyllis (Ken) Minton of Washington, Marilyn (Jeffery) Shepperd of LaVerne, CA, Daniel (Theresa) McCabe of Dahinda, Ron McCabe of Azusa, CA, Dolores (Dan) Recar of Morton, Elaine (Paul Sr.) Hunt of Washington, Aileen (Mark) Hamann of East Peoria, nineteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren, two brothers; Albert McCabe of East Peoria and Robert McCabe of Aurora, CO and one sister; Frances (Bernie) Heine of Dunlap. John was very proud to have served his country in the Marine Corp during WWII. He achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He was also honorably discharged from the Civilian Conservation Corp where he served three years in Shawnee National Forest as Senior Foreman. In 1982 he retired as a Fire inspector from Caterpillar Inc. where he worked 35 years. He was a caring member of St. Monica's Catholic Church in East Peoria and a former member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Monsignor E.L. Grzybowski Council 7580 in East Peoria. He was an avid fisherman and loved taking his family on fishing trips to Minnesota. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife and loved camping at Oak Run. He was also a talented carpenter and loved gardening. There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday December 14, 2012 at 10 am at St. Monica's Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM Thursday December 13, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria and also one half hour prior to the service at the church. The family will pray the Rosary on Thursday at 6:45 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton. Military rites will be performed by both active duty soldiers and Tazewell Military Rites Team. The family would like to thank OSF Hospice for the care they showed their father, and also want to give a heartfelt thanks to Heidi Burmeister for her years of loving care and grandson, Josh Hamann.
