Obituary
WASHINGTON--John H. Klaus, 77, of Washington, died at 2:20 AM, on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 in Kuantan, Malaysia.
He was born on August 8, 1930 in Eureka, IL to Arthur and Esther Herbst Klaus. He married Betty A. Haas on June 3, 1959 in Elgin, IL; she survives.
Also surviving are 4 sons, Andrew (Jana) Klaus of Tokyo, Japan, Mark Klaus of Tanner, AL, Tim (Susan) Klaus of Corpus Christi, TX, and Daniel (Rebekah) Klaus of Seymour, IN; 5 daughters, Faith, Melody, and Joy Klaus of Washington, IL, Grace Klaus of Tokyo, Japan, Hope (Takehide) Itoh of Chiba, Japan; 3 brothers, Jim (Jean) Klaus of Eureka, IL, Fritz (Shirley) Klaus of Downer's Grove, IL, and Tom Klaus of Washington, IL; and 9 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth Snyder, his brother Bill Klaus, and his son Samuel Klaus.
He graduated from Bradley University in 1952, and served in the US Army during the Korean War.
John moved to Japan in 1961, and served as a missionary in Japan for 40 years. He also was an English professor at Jissen College in Tokyo, Japan. He served as a minister in the Tokyo Apostolic Christian Church, and at other churches in the Tokyo area. For the last 10 years, he had been going on annual mission trips which included Malaysia and Indonesia.
A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, March 18 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, March 17 at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held one half-hour prior to services on Tuesday.
Burial will be at Roanoke Apostolic Cemetery in Roanoke, IL.
