John M. "Jack" Kent, 88, of Delavan and formerly of Washington, IL, died at 12:06 pm Wednesday, November 10, 2021 in Eureka, IL. Born on February 10, 1933 in Peoria, IL to Roy E. and Georgia Lee Becker, he married Jane DuVall on December 28, 1952. He later married Shirley Connell on June 11, 1983. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2012. Surviving are 4 daughters; Amy Kent of Delavan, IL, Laura (Brian) Bradshaw of Sparta, IL, Brenda Ratton (Tony Goodwin) and Maria (Tim) Railey, both of Washington, IL, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Richard, and 4 grandchildren. Jack was a proud member of the US Air Force serving during the Korean War era. He worked as a plumber for many years, and was a founding member of the Washington Fire and Rescue Squad, where he served as Captain. He also served as an EMT and Auxiliary Police Officer in Washington. He enjoyed flying and was a licensed pilot for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling to Florida, and was an amateur magician. Jack also served as an Elder and Deacon at the Delavan Baptist Church for many years. Services will be at 11 am Monday, November 15, 2021 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor Andy Goewey will officiate. Visitation will be from 10-11 am Monday at the funeral home. A graveside service will be at 11 am Tuesday, November 16, 2021 at Prairie Rest Cemetery in Delavan, IL, where military honors will be accorded by the US Air Force. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
