John Henry
Hafner
Jun 20, 1941 — Aug 30, 2022
On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, John Henry Hafner, a loving husband and father of two children, passed away at the age of 81.
John was born June 20th, in St. Louis, Missouri to Henry and Jane Hafner. After attending Clayton High School he obtained his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at Washington University in 1963. John then went to work for Caterpillar for 35 years, where he met his wife Peg, they married on April 23, 1966 and were married for 56 years. Over the course of John's 35 year career at Caterpillar he was able to travel the world with his wife and kids, including a four year long residency in Hong Kong, where they made many lifelong friends.
John spent the remainder of his life living with Peg near a beach community in Frankfort, Michigan, where they would spend their days perusing the beautiful beaches with their dogs and many grandchildren. The vast backwoods and rolling dunes of Frankfort quenched a passion John had for the simplicity and calmness of nature, a passion that he would later instill in his grandchildren at an early age.
A devout catholic and avid church volunteer, John never missed a day of worship and always prayed for each of his loved ones by name.
John leaves behind a large and caring family. His wife Peg, daughter Lisa (Adam) Abraham, son Clay (Julie) Hafner, sister Judy (Bob) Norris, and his seven grandchildren Nate, Ellie, Emma, Zack, Grace, Chloe, and Jane.
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm Friday September 9, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. A memorial mass will take place at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 10th, 2022. Father John Bazimenyera will officiate.
