John J. Goonan Jr, 78, of Washington, passed away on February 5, 2022 after a brief illness.

John was born February 16, 1943 in Baltimore, MD to John J. Goonan Sr and Helen Rukat.  He married Dolores Pytko in Levittown, PA on February 4, 1967.  He graduated from Scranton High School in 1960.  After high school he served in the Air Force and was proud to be a United States Air Force Veteran. He spent his entire career working in the steel industry, retiring from Liberty Steel and Wire after 25 years.

John was a member of St Patrick's Catholic Church in Washington.  He was an avid Notre Dame fan and loved watching and attending games with his wife and son.  He enjoyed spending time with his godson's family, attending their children's activities. John was thoughtful, kind and caring. He will be deeply missed.  In remembrance of John, do something nice for someone else as he often did for others.

Surviving is two half brothers, Paul J. Goonan, and Paton Pallis; and four half sisters, Linda Marichak, Susan Biel, Cathy Pallis, and Holly Pallis. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores; son Sean; and sister JoAnn.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
