Obituary EAST PEORIAa"John Earl Smith, 94, died at 6:15 PM on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at the Hopedale Nursing Home. Born on January 31, 1914 in East Peoria to William and Myrtle L. Martines Smith, he married Evelyn M. Blase on July 27, 1935 in Peoria, IL. She preceded him in death on October 6, 2004 in East Peoria. Surviving are 2 sons, Gary L. (Ida) Smith of Washington, MO and Jack A. (Joanna) Smith of East Peoria, IL; 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers and 3 sisters. John owned a milk hauling business and had worked as a foreman for Hoffer Construction. He retired from Morton Reddi-Mix as a truck driver after 10 years of service. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, May 12 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Rev. Dwight Winnett and Rev. Jeff Leeman will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 1-2pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
