Obituary East Peoria- John C. "Jack" Duchien, 81, of East Peoria passed away at 5:20 PM on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Snyder Village in Metamora. He was born on January 20, 1927 to Sidney and Eva Delila (Luther) Duchien. He married Joyce E. Hodel on June 1, 1952 in Metamora. She preceded him in death on December 12, 2005. Survivors are one son John E. (Kimberly) Duchien of Seymour, IL; two daughters Jill Hinnen and Janet (Michael) Flinn, both of East Peoria; nine grandchildren Ryan (Katie), Erin, Michael, and Alison Hinnen, Christopher (Meggan), Bethany, and Zachary Flinn, Kaitlin Duchien, and Ashley Johnson; and two great-granddaughters Charli Jill Hinnen and Abigail Grace Flinn. He was preceded in death by one brother, Jim and one grandson, Brent Johnson. John enlisted in the Air Force from 1944 to 1946, serving during WWII. He received his Bachelor's degree from Eureka College and his Master's from Bradley University. He was employed in East Peoria District 86 for 35 years, first teaching, then serving as principal and in central administration, and retired as Superintendant in 1986. He was part of the Superintendant Round Table and American Association of School Administrators. After retiring, he and his wife were tour escorts for Peoria Charter Coach. He was also a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria where he served as an usher and elder. John loved the game of golf, and especially spending time with his grandkids. Services for John C. "Jack" Duchien will be held at 11 AM at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria on Tuesday January 20, 2009. Pastor Douglas Lightly will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Garden in Morton. Visitation will also be held from 5-8 PM on Monday, January 19, 2009 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10-11 at the church. Memorials in John's name may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church Youth Ministry, Snyder Village, or Great River Christian School at 426 Harrison Ave. in Burlington, IA.
