WASHINGTON - Joe Archibald, 82, of Washington, IL died at 4:05 am Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Washington Christian Village in Washington.
Born on March 9, 1931 in Centerville, IA to Joseph and Nancy Johnson Archibald, he married Sandra D. Eggert on January 28, 1956 in Centerville. She survives.
Also surviving are 3 children, David (Linda) Archibald of Lawrenceville, GA, Steven (Amy) Archibald of Green Bay, WI, and Sara (Patrick) Marsalek of Dublin, OH, 4 grandchildren, Taylor, Race, Delaney and Grace, and 3 brothers, Jim Archibald of Moline, IL, Richard Archibald of Des Moines, IA, and Sidney Archibald of Tupelo, MS.
He was preceded in death by 1 sister, Lucille Carter, and 4 brothers, Glen Archibald, Bert Archibald, Paul Archibald and Charles Archibald.
Joe was a proud US Navy veteran serving in the Korean War.
He worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. as a Foreman and retired in 1992. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 9016 in Washington. Joe was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at Kaufman Park in Eureka for many years where he made a double eagle on the Par 5 #3 hole.
A memorial visitation will be from 10am - 12pm on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Paul Fishkin and the staff of Illinois Cancer Care, Dr. Lee Kinsinger and his staff, and the staff of Washington Christian Village for their outstanding care and support.
