WASHINGTONa"Jocelyn N. (Northfield) Mather, 87, of Washington died at 1:14 AM on Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.
Born on December 3, 1922 in Duluth MN to Dr. Ivan H. and Estelle Goering Northfield, she married Robert I. Mather on February 12, 1944 in Atlanta, GA. He survives.
Also surviving is her daughter, Dr. Patricia Mather of Washington.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 brother.
Jocelyn was a former amateur figure skater, performing in the Ice Follies in Minnesota. She then went on to graduate from Stephens College and attended the University of Minnesota.
Jocelyn was a homemaker and an active volunteer throughout her lifetime. Her most recent volunteer work was with Hospice of Hillsborough County, the Sun City Center Ambulance Squad, and Shriners Children's Hospital in Tampa, Florida. She was an avid golfer in Florida and a member of the Sun City Center Golf Association. She loved growing roses and was a member of the American Rose Society.
Jocelyn was of the Episcopal faith, and through her church participated in the Altar Guild. She also formed a church day care center as well as thrift shops in several communities. Her most recent membership was at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Barrington, IL.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Private services will be held at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
