Obituary Washington - Joan R. O'Dea, 79, of Washington died at 9:44 AM on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. She was born June 15, 1932 in Streator, IL to Ned J. and Evelyn Flanigan Vespa. Joan married Thomas E. O'Dea on October 4, 1952 in Toluca. He preceded her in death on July 6, 2011 in Washington. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, John Mulligan. Joan is survived by her four children; Tom (Debra) O'Dea of Washington, Jean Marie Mulligan of Peoria, Cathy (Lee) Pallardy of Urbandale, IA and Bob (Chris) O'Dea of Washington, six grandchildren; Tony Smith and Katie Smith, Jessica Pierce, Cari and Maria O'Dea and Sean Pallardy, and one brother; Ned (Carol) Vespa of Santa Fe, New Mexico. She attended Bradley University. She was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and a member of the Peoria Alum Club of Pi Beta Phi. Joan and her husband Tom, started O'Dea's Cleaners in Toluca in 1953 and then moved their business to Washington in 1957, where she worked up until this past Friday. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington, where a Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday April 4, 2012 at 10:00 AM. Msgr. John Prendergast will officiate. There will be a visitation from 5-7 PM on Tuesday at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. There will be a vigil service at 7 PM. Additional visitation will be prior to the service at church. Cremation rites will be accorded after the service. Burial of cremains will be at St. Ann's Cemetery in Toluca at a later date.
