Obituary

Obituary Jimmie R. (Jim) Callihan, 70, of Washington died peacefully at his home on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 7:42 am, surrounded by his family. He was born November 12, 1941 in Fort Madison, IA, the son of Roland S. and June R. Wilcox Callihan. He married the love of his life, Nancy J. Virgil on Janurary 5, 1979 in Luray, MO. Jim is survived by his wife and five children, Veronica Callihan of Forrest, Michael Callihan of Lawrenceville, NJ, Patricia (Dan) Allen of Pekin, Jimmie Callihan of Washington, Katrina (Michael) Camp of Irvine, CA, as well as two brothers Ferris Callihan of Dallas City, Patrick (Jane) Callihan of Galesburg, and one sister Kathleen Morris of Hillsboro, OR. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Alexis, Christene, Caitlin, Caleb, Nikki, Hannah, Mikael, Jonathan, Peyton, and Cannon, and two great-grandchildren, Adriel and Junieth. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Richard and Dennis and an infant daughter, Brenda. Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1959 to 1963 at Camp Pendleton, CA and Camp Sukiran, Okinawa, Japan. He achieved the rank of corporal and was an Infantry Weapons Repairman and sharpshooter. He retired in 2001 from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in East Peoria as a Machinist after 32 years and then moved to Panama City Beach, Florida. He returned to Illinois in 2010. He was a member of the American Legion, AMVETS, NRA and UAW 974. Jim enjoyed hunting with a bow and also a black powder rifle. He also loved to fish, and took up shark fishing in Florida. He was a fan of college basketball, little league world series, boxing and more recently UFC cage fighting. He also enjoyed riding his Harley. Jim was a loving husband and wonderful father and grandfather. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh, and enjoyed practical jokes. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday December 15 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory, 444 E. Washington St., East Peoria. Funeral services will be held Friday December 16 at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Cottonwood Cemetery in Hanna City, IL.
