James W. "Jim" Marrs, 79, of Peoria, passed away at 8:00pm Monday, February 25, 2019 at Cornerstone Rehabilitation and Health Care in Peoria Heights. Jim was born September 12, 1939 in Wood River, IL to the late William Marrs and Maudie Van Ethel. He married Margaret "Peggy" Gebhardt Shropshire on January 18, 1981 in Peoria. Surviving is his wife, Peggy; children, James Marrs, Jr., John (Marie) Marrs, Nancy Shelby, Kenny Shropshire, Theresa French, April Moore, Marjorie (Brock) Alexander, and Jerry Marrs; 24 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a brother, Claude Marrs. He was also preceded in death by his son, David Shropshire, son-in-law, Gregg Finin; 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. Jim served in the US Air Force. He was truck driver, retiring from Magnatron in 2005 after many years on the road. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading anything and everything. His favorite genres were science fiction and mystery, but he especially loved to read the Bible. Jim had a unique, outgoing personality and never knew a stranger. A funeral service will be held at 10:00am Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Rev. Gary England will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Friday, March 15, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
