Jeanette "Jean" Redding, 85, of Washington, IL died at 9:24 pm Monday, February 21, 2022, surrounded by her family, at Grandview Alzheimer's Special Care Center in Peoria, IL.
Born on June 30, 1936 in St. Louis, MO to O. Robert and Anita T. Grosskettler Thier, she married John M. Redding on Oct 4, 1958 in Waterloo, IL. He preceded her in death on June 19, 2001 in Washington, IL.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Cathy Gehris of Iowa City, IA, and Susanne (John) Kail of Washington, IL, 2 sons, John Redding of Elk Grove Village, IL and David Redding of Morton, IL, 8 grandchildren, Miranda, Caleb, Lindsey, Kayla, Jack (Amanda), Ben (Jen), Maddie and Sam and 1 great-granddaughter, Emilia Jean.
She was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Redding and grandson, Thomas Gehris.
Jean was dedicated to her disabled son, David, and advocated for other people with disabilities. She also was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington.
She enjoyed gardening for many years, especially growing fresh vegetables and fruits for the family, neighbors, and friends. She and her late husband planted and cared for many trees, bushes, and flowers on their acreage in rural Washington. The spring was always heralded by their naturalized yard bursting with cheerful narcissus and peonies.
A funeral mass will be at 11 am Monday, February 28, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Washington. Father John Steffen will officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the mass. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
Memorials may be made to Oakwood Estates, Apostolic Christian LifePoints, Morton, for enhancements for the disabled.
