Obituary WASHINGTONa"Janice "Jan" L. Malcom, 67, of Washington, died of a clostridium difficile infection, an antibiotic-resistant bacteria, at 6:40 AM on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Born on September 23, 1940 in Peoria, IL to Robert W. and Alice E. Harkless Saunders, she married Thomas F. Malcom on April 2, 1960 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in Peoria, IL. He survives. Also surviving is her mother, Alice Saunders of Eureka, IL; 3 sons, Christopher Malcom and Terry Brindley of Beaumont, TX and Timothy (Lisa) Malcom of Peoria, IL; 1 daughter, Melody Malcom of North Pekin, IL; 1 sister, Marjorie (Robert) Wolfe of Eureka, IL; 3 step-grandchildren, Nicole, Amanda and James, and 4 step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and 1 step-grandson, Andrew. Jan worked for District 50 School District in Washington as the head cook, working for over 20 years after retiring in 1997. She loved kids, snow, the Lord, and Elvis, and enjoyed doing family genealogy. She also enjoyed camping, cooking and gardening, as well as spending time with her family. Jan once won Grand Champion for her candy chocolate turtles at the Heart of Illinois Fair. She was a longtime member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Peoria. A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington. Pastor Ralph Barnett will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, November 12, 2007 at the funeral home. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to services, from 1-2 PM. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Paso.
