Obituary

Obituary James T. "Jim" Valentine, Sr. 75, of Washington, passed away at 7:00pm, Monday, February 17, 2014 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Jim was born September 6, 1938 in Battle Creek, MI to Woodrow and Dorothy Hayes Parris. He married Margaret Tate on July 2, 1960 in Peoria; she survives. Also surviving are their children, Annette Catton of Washington, Jackie (Mike) Hendrick of Antioch, and Jim (Debra) Valentine, Jr. of Washington; grandchildren, Stephanie & Allen Catton, Michael & Matthew Hendrick, and Madison & Mackenzie Valentine; great-grandson, Kale Hendrick; siblings, Raymond (Sue) Valentine of Michigan, Marge Parris of California, Diane (John) Swierenga of Wheaton, Dave (Bobbie) Parris of Florida, and Robert (Michelle) Parris of California; and step-mother, Maryann Parris of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Woodrow Parris, Jr.; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Hendrick. Jim was educated in Peoria schools and graduated from Woodruff High School; he also served in the National Guard. He began working at Keystone Steel & Wire in Bartonville in the wire mill. He worked his way into the computer department and retired as a Senior Systems Analyst in 2001, after 43 years of service. Jim enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, and camping. He had a green thumb and enjoyed time spent at his lake home at Oak Run. Most importantly, he loved his family. A funeral service for Jim will be at noon Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Deiters Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Steve Graffis will officiate services, and cremation rites will be accorded following ceremonies. Memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or to Faith Church in Washington.
