Obituary WASHINGTON - James I. "Jim" McDaniel, 96, of Washington, IL, died at 3:10 pm Monday, July 7, 2014 in Washington surrounded by his family. Born on February 25, 1918 in Plymouth, IL to Ray and Gladys Twaddle McDaniel, he married Irene Louden on June 8, 1940 in LaHarpe, IL. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2014 in Washington, IL. Surviving are 2 daughters, Jean (David) Kiesewetter of Rockton, IL and Kathleen "Kathy" (Bill) VanMieghem of Morton, IL, 9 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Laurel. Jim was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II, where he was responsible for setting up movement of soldiers by troop train. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He started his banking career in LaHarpe, IL, and then continued to move to various communities with his career. Moving to Washington, Illinois in 1960, he worked for the Danforth Bank, and later became President and Chairman of the Board of the First National Bank in Washington. Jim was an active member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, where he had served as Treasurer and on various other committees. He was a former member of the Washington Rotary Club and the American Legion. Jim was also the recipient of the 1967 Washington Chamber of Commerce Washingtonian Award. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. A memorial service for Jim will be at 11 am Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Crossroads United Methodist Church. Pastor Tom Goodell will officiate. Visitation will be from 9-11 am Saturday at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington following the service on Saturday. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Crossroads United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
