James C. Manns, 78, affectionately known as Jimbo, left to meet his Lord and Savior on Monday, April 4th. He was in the company of many family members during his final days and looked forward to meeting his loved ones in Heaven.
A memorial service will be at 11:30 am Friday, April 8, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL. Pastor Bob Phillips will officiate. A visitation will be from 10 am-11:30 am on Friday at the church. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
Jimbo was born the son of Eugene and Olive Marie (Osborn) Manns on 7/24/37 in Williamsville, MO. He grew up in East Peoria and graduated from Bradley University in 1961. He married Mary Ruth Brasher, in 1970 in East Peoria. She survives. Jimbo and Mary Ruth raised their family in Germantown Hills. Together they have two children, Julie Manns (Glenn) Baumgarth of Chandler, AZ and Doug (Kate) Manns of Raleigh, NC, and six grandchildren, Shea, Adam, Ty, and Grant Baumgarth and Luke and Lauren Manns.
Jimbo is also a beloved brother, brother-in-law, and uncle. Jimbo and his two sisters, Kathryn "Cricket" (Jim) Tillery of East Peoria and Karolyn "Kay" (Jack) Seppelt of Clinton, IA raised their children to value family as they brought everyone together regularly for lively holidays and gatherings. Five nieces and nephews and twelve great nieces and nephews complement Jimbo's close extended family, many of whom were by his side during his last days.
In the 1970's and 80's Jimbo built numerous family homes as a professional contractor in the Metamora and Germantown Hills area. He enjoyed woodworking, frequent family get-togethers, reminiscing with good friends, teasing everyone, and traveling to visit his children and grandchildren in Arizona and North Carolina. He attended First United Methodist Church in Peoria. Jimbo will be greatly missed by his loving family who are blessed with decades of funny stories, wonderful memories, and family bonds.
Jimbo and his family are grateful for the care and compassion received at Illinois CancerCare, OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, and from Dr. Veeder and his team.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Illinois CancerCare or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
