Obituary West Peoria - James L. Barnes, 67, of West Peoria died at 1 PM on Thursday May 8, 2014 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born October 11, 1946 in Peoria to Charles E. and Amelia A. Shane Barnes. He married Mary Marjorie Meismer on Aug 8, 2008 in East Peoria. She survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Andrew G. Barnes of Peoria and Matthew T. (Melanie) Barnes of Valdosta, GA, nine grandchildren, Sam Widger and Zac, Dakota, Collin, Justin, Nathan, Ryan, Tanner and Finnley Barnes. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert Barnes of Pekin and Richard Barnes of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Balcom. James was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Peoria. He was a volunteer at Sophie's Kitchen, where he helped served between 300-500 people every day. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Monsignor E. L. Grzybowski Council 7580 in East Peoria. James enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life, especially the two youngest who he helped raise, Tanner and Finnley. There will be a Funeral Mass for James at 10 AM on Tuesday May 13, 2014 at St Joseph's Catholic Church in Peoria. Father Paul Meismer will officiate. There will be a visitation on Monday May 12, 2014 from 5-7 PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria as well as one half hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to Sophie's Kitchen or to St. Jude Children's Hospital. .
