Obituary EAST PEORIA- James Charles "Jim" Carroll, 84, of 122 Schlag Lane East Peoria, IL died at 5:15 am, Saturday, April 16, 2011 at his daughters home in Pekin. He was born August 5, 1926 in East Peoria to Paul L. and Gladys R. Boundy Carroll. He married Eula G. Craig on August 21, 1948 in East Peoria. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters Deborah L. (Phil) Smith of Pekin, IL and Christine J. (Pepper) Gates of Lake Havasu, AZ, two sons Matt (Karen) Carroll of Normal, IL and Michael C. Carroll of East Peoria, IL, one sister Pauline Gastman of Morton,IL formerly of Robein, as well as seven grandchildren Jennifer (Tony) Dollar, Brian Smith, Jacob (Heidi) Jeremiah, James (Lynn) Jeremiah, Mike Carroll, Katie Carroll and Mallory Carroll and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Jack Carroll, one sister Virginia Schonwise, one grandson Daniel Carroll, one nephew Paul Carroll and two nieces Carol Jean Wilcox and Julie Freitag. James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an Instrument Technician for the CILCO, Central Illinois Light Company for 38 years, retiring in 1989. Jim was also a member of the IBFNO Union, the East Peoria Optimist Club, St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pekin and served on the East Peoria High School District #309 school board for many years. Jim was fortunate to have just completed his Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in the last couple of weeks. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am Tuesday, April 19 at St. Monica's Church in East Peoria. Father Jim Pankiewicz will officiate. A visitation will be held from 4-7 pm Monday, April 18 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria, with an additional visitation from 9-10 am Tuesday at the church. Interment will follow at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, where military honors will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or the Honor Flight Network.
