Obituary EAST PEORIAa"James L. Blackburn, 67, of East Peoria died at 5:05 AM on Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at his home after battling lung cancer for 15 months. Born on February 12, 1939 in Washburn IL, son of John Alvin and Pearl Hockenbury Blackburn, he married Michaela (Mickey) Duran on November 16, 1963. She survives. He is survived by a son, Michael (Jeanna) and their daughters Sydney and Hannah of Sycamore IL, his son, Daniel (Lori) and their son Parker of O'Fallon, MO; 2 sisters, Jean Lindsey of East Peoria and Joan Riss of Streator; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce Oesch. He retired from Caterpillar, Inc. after 30 years of service and worked in Data Processing and Telecommunications. He served in the US Navy for 4 years aboard the USS John A. Bole and USS Coontz. He was a member of the Caterpillar Accounting bowling team for 25 years, and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Glasford, IL. James was also a lifetime member of the East Peoria VFW Post 2078 and the USS John A. Bole DD755 Association, of which he was president for 15 years. He was a Bradley Basketball season ticket holder for 27 years. There will be a funeral service at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria. Pastor John A. Schurter will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Friday, February 9, 2007 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora.
