Jacqueline Ponder, 85, of Metamora, formerly of Maumelle, AR, passed away at 11:49 am Friday, June 4, 2021, at her daughter's home, with her family by her side.
She was born December 7, 1935, in Heavener, OK, to Jack Avery and Isis Donley. She married Donald Hurlock in 1958 in Huron, OH; he survives. She later married Colonel Arno Ponder in Bangkok, Thailand in 1980. He preceded her in death on May 29, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Thomas; and two sisters, Leota and Jean.
Surviving are one daughter, Shanna (Rodney) Kurth; two sons, Gregory (Paige) Hurlock, Mark Hurlock; ten grandchildren, Ashley, Natalie, Kolin, Taney, Nate, Alex, Ryan, Randi, Avery, Mackenzie; and eight great-grandchildren.
Jacqueline and her late husband enjoyed travel, visiting many Southeast Asian countries as well as the British Isles and Europe. Most of all, they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren -- especially on their avocado farm in California as well as the summer float trips on the Buffalo River in Arkansas.
Jacqueline was a longtime member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her hobbies were reading books and the Wall St. Journal, sewing, writing letters to children and grandchildren, and recalling many good memories.
Cremation has been accorded. There will be no services. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
