Obituary
Jack (John) L. Young, 71, of Washington, formerly of Deer Creek passed away at 9:31am Sunday, October 29, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Jack was born December 28, 1945 in East Peoria to Vern and Ruth Eller Young. He married Katherine Rider on November 19, 1966 in Washington. Surviving is his wife Kathie, of Washington; his children, Todd B. (Diane) Young of Washington and Ellen M. (Keith) DeLap of Peoria; grandchildren, Samuel and Tricia; and siblings, Jerry (Joanna) Young, Janet (Kermit) Hurley, and Joanne Jochums. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jay Young. Jack attended East Peoria Community High School before enlisting in the Army. He served during the Vietnam War from 1965-1967. He went on to work for Caterpillar in Morton as an inspector, retiring after 30 years of service. In his retirement, he enjoyed going to the races and to auctions. He also loved tinkering with small engines, and servicing lawn mowers and chain saws. Jack always had a joke; his one-of-a-kind sense of humor will be missed. A funeral service will be held at 11:00am Friday, November 3, 2017 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Military honors will conclude the service. Pastor Clayton Tinervin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Thursday, November 2, 2017 at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.
