Obituary

Jack Allyn Baird, 87, of Washington, passed away at 9:05am Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at UnityPoint Health- Methodist in Peoria.

He was born February 3, 1935 in Peoria to the late Lester and Edna Hunter Baird. He married Joan Tolliver on December 12, 1959 in East Peoria; she preceded him in death on May 21, 2017.

Surviving are his children, Valerie Wise, Scott Allyn (Amy) Baird and Steven Douglas Baird, all of Washington; grandchildren, Danielle (David) Schowalter, Tracey Wise, Scott Allyn Baird Jr. and Matthew Elijah Baird; and great-grandchildren, Abigail and Henry.

He was also preceded in death by his five siblings.

Jack worked for Kroger Warehouse, later Gateway Freight, for 36 years until retiring in 1996. Jack was steadfast, loyal, and dedicated whether he was caring for his wife, supporting his grandkids' activities or during his service in the US Army. Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed golfing and never missed a chance to play. He loved cheering for the University of Illinois, Blackhawks, Giants, or Bears and could always be counted on for a good joke.

A funeral service for Jack will be held at 10:00am Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Visitation will be from 5-7:00pm Friday, June 3, 2022 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memory Gardens in rural Morton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
