Obituary

Obituary J. Bryce Hessing, 74, of Germantown Hills, passed away and went to be with the Lord at 8:59 am Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at his residence. He was born January 22, 1941 to Louis and Helen (Sutter) Hessing in Peoria, IL. He married Marilyn J. Hoerr in Peoria on February 8, 1964. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Tyler Hessing of Marseilles, Joshua (Jennifer) Hessing of Metamora; one brother, Brock (Shirley) Hessing Sr. of Dunlap; and seven grandchildren, Mason, Jacob, Sarah, Jackson, Ryan, Luke and Kate. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Nathan John Hessing. Bryce graduated from Peoria High School, Bradley University BS, MBA and University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve upon graduating from Bradley. Bryce had a lifetime career in banking, first working at First Federal Savings and Loan. He then served as President of First Security Bank in Mackinaw and later University National Bank in Peoria. He retired from National City bank in Peoria. Bryce was active in Peoria Rotary North receiving the Paul Harris award and Fred Sweat Fellowship and Service award. He also served on Germantown Hills Grade School and Metamora Township High School Boards. Bryce was an active member of Grace Presbyterian Church and served on the Diaconate and building committee for the new church on Route 91. He also served on the Peoria Rescue Mission Board. His favorite time of the year was spent at his cabin in the north woods of Wisconsin with his family and friends. Bryce's funeral service will be at 10 am Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian Church in Peoria, with Pastors Ben Johnston and John Hopwood officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 pm Friday, January 8, 2016 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, with further visitation one hour before services from 9 to 10 am Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Metamora. Memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, Growing Grace.
