Obituary
Washington - Irene Leigh Gordon, 79 of Washington passed away peacefully at home in her husband's arms at 9:23 PM on Wednesday January 11, 2012. She was born in Swinton, Lancashire, England on June 26, 1932 to George Irwin and Ethel Young Leigh.
On August 7, 1952 in Monton, Eccles, Lancashire, England she married Phillip Gordon. He survives. Also surviving are three sons; Gregory Gordon of Indianapolis, IN, Raymond (Michele) Gordon of Cherry Hill, NJ, Neil (Traci) Gordon of Wheatland, IN, three granddaughters; Amanda Miller, Rachel Gordon and Anna Gordon, one grandson; Adam Gordon, five step-grandchildren, one sister Sandra (Joe) Hume and one half brother James Leigh both of England. She was preceded in death by one half-sister Joyce.
In 1976 Irene completed a two year course at ICC in Construction Technology, graduating with honors. She was also a volunteer at the State Hospital in Bartonville in the 1960's. She also petitioned against the Vietnam War. Irene was a homemaker.
There will be a memorial visitation from 5-7 PM on Monday January 16, 2012 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Cremation rites have been accorded.
