Obituary EAST PEORIA - Howard J. Goins Jr., 67, of East Peoria, IL died at 8:48 am Monday, March 7, 2011 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria with his family by his side. Born on October 24, 1943 in Peoria, IL to Howard J. and Virginia Clemmer Goins Sr., he married Judith P. Phelan on September 15, 1962 in Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving are 1 daughter, Janice (Roger) Heinz of Batavia, IL and 1 son James Goins of Aurora, IL, 4 grandchildren, Allison, Andrea, Adam, and Andrew, 2 sisters, Penny (Marvin) Campen of Bartonville, IL and Glenda (Sam) Olvera of Carpentersville, IL, 1 brother, Rick Goins of Peoria, IL, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Howard worked as a steamfitter until he retired in 2001 and was a member of the Steamfitters Union Local #353. He also received a commendation as a 35 year member of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry. After retiring, Howard owned and operated Goins Handyman Service, where he utilized his many skills and talents while building lasting relationships with his clients. He was a member of the American Legion in both Bartonville and Spring Bay. He also was a member of the Taylor Masonic Lodge #98 in Washington and the Illinois State Police Association, the Hanna City Sportsmens Club and also the Little John Conservation Club. Howard also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and gardening. Howard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who will be deeply missed and was a friend to all who knew him. Throughout his illness, Howard kept his positive attitude and outlook, full of spirit and determination. This has been a source of great comfort and encouragement to his family. A memorial service for Howard will be at 11 am Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Rev. Eimo Hinrichs will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is assisting the family with arrangements.
