Obituary

Homer Harold Poston, 95, of Peoria, IL passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at OSF St. Joseph Medical

Center in Bloomington, IL.

Homer was born June 2, 1931, in Ava, Illinois to Homer Oscar and Sarah Belle (King) Poston. Homer married Shirley O. Neal in Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 21, 2011.

In addition to his wife and parents, Homer was preceded in death by his sons Gary Poston and Kenny Poston, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.

Homer is survived by his daughters: Karen (Dennis) Price of Bartonville, Kathy (Brad) Deuell of St. Augustine, Florida, Kim Poston of Peoria, 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Homer grew up in a family of 9 children through The Great Depression. He lost his father at the tender age of 9 years old. His mother, Sarah, never remarried but somehow managed to raise the children on her own.

Homer served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was trained as a Radio Mechanic/Repairman.

Homer held many different jobs over his lifetime and often worked two jobs while raising his family. He was an insurance salesman, owned a gas station, worked at Caterpillar, International Harvester, and Peoria Apron & Towel Supply. He then started Ace Used Auto Parts in Bartonville, eventually growing and moving to Washington Street in Peoria. The name changed to Ace Used Truck & Auto Parts and at one time he also owned Ace Used Foreign Car Parts. Homer owned and operated Ace with his family for nearly 50 years. Homer loved serving his customers and earned a reputation for being honest, fair, and willing to help anyone he possibly could. Many friendships were built over the years.

Outside of work, Homer enjoyed building and fixing almost anything. At one time he owned a two seater Piper Cub airplane and completed flying lessons to solo fly. He owned his own stock car and participated in team races at the Peoria Speedway. He earned the status of Master Mason at Peoria Masonic Lodge #263 in 1970 and proudly wore his masonic ring. Homer loved to watch NASCAR and wrestling. He and Shirley bought their first motorhome in 1973, belonged to the Winnebago Winnie Poo Club for many years, and enjoyed camping and traveling all over the United States and into Canada and Mexico. On one of their many trips he boldly drove his motorhome through downtown New York City! They spent many winters in Florida.

To honor his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded by Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington, IL. A graveside service will be held at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria on September 4, 2026 at 11 am. All family and friends are welcome to attend.
