Obituary
Herbert John Larson, 77, of Washington, died at 5:53 am Friday, June 2, 2006 at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. Born on October 22, 1928 in Pukwana, SD to John and Dorothy Stolte Larson, he married Patricia Derry on June 28, 1953 in Vermillion, SD. She preceded him in death on April 29, 2006 in Peoria, IL. His parents also preceded him in death. Surviving are 2 sons, Gary (Denise) Larson of St. Charles, MO and Gregg (Mary) Larson of Coeurd'alene, Idaho, and 5 grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Amanda, Stephen and Jonathan Larson. Herb served as a Sergeant in the Marine Corp for nearly 3 years in the late 1940's. He then received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Dakota and a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Kansas University. After finishing college, he was employed at the Westinghouse Graduate Student division. After numerous job assignments in East Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Mansfield, OH, he transferred to Kansas City, MO in 1954, where he worked for the Gas Turbine division until 1962. He then worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Mossville, IL as a Project Engineer for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed model building of planes and boats, and also enjoyed gardening and travel. He was a member of the USD Alumni Association and the KU Alumni Association. He also was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club and the Washington Flyers RC Club. Services will be private. Cremation rites will be accorded and burial of cremains will be at a later date at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
