Obituary
WASHINGTON-Henry Joseph Picton, Jr., 88, of Washington died on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at his residence.
Born on September 20, 1921 in Atwater, Illinois to Henry Joseph Sr. and Bertha Alexander Picton, he married Edna F. Knoche on September 19, 1942 in St. Charles, Missouri. His wife of 67 years survives.
Henry is also survived by one son, Richard Wayne (Ann) Picton of Tremont; one daughter, Diane (Terry) Buckingham of Peoria; six grandchildren, Tina Picton, Rick Picton, Troy (Diann) Buckingham, Tammy Buckingham, Todd (Melissa) Buckingham, Tara (Mark) Diver; one step-granddaughter, Taffetta Dufour; and seven great-grandchildren, Devyn and Nicholas Buckingham, Zachary, Caleb, Joshua, Noah and Nathaniel Diver. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Marilyn Zimbleman, one brother, and two sisters.
Henry was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during World War II.
Henry was a machinist and later became an inspector for WABCO, retiring in 1982 after 37 years of service.
He was a life member of VFW Post #8662 and American Legion Post #2, both in Peoria. Henry was also a life member of the Cooties Organizations and the 4098 Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing bingo. Henry also enjoyed working on cars.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Multiple Sclerosis Association.
Services will be private. Entombment will be in American Mausoleum in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington is in charge of arrangements.
