Obituary
PEORIA- Henry "Bud" Edward Behrends 92, of Peoria, passed away at 7:21 pm on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Heartland of Riverview in East Peoria.
He was born May 27, 1921 on a farm in Limestone Township to William and Clausina Janssen Behrends. Henry was as WWII Veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Corps.
Henry was married on February 14, 1950 to Mary Louise Lane Behrend in Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 21, 2009 in Peoria. They spent nearly 60 years together. They worked together in raising their family and running their businesses. They enjoyed traveling, helping friends and family, and bringing joy to those who had the pleasure of knowing them.
Henry was a happy and friendly guy, novice singer, jack-of-all-trades and all around good character. Henry was co-owner of Mac-Hy grocery stores from 1947 to 1974; he then became a meat cutter for Thompsons Grocery in Peoria. He retired in 1986. He kept busy doing various odd jobs for people, putting together puzzles, and spending time with family. His last part time job was at Cook Rental in Morton, where he worked until age 88.
Henry is survived by his two sons, Willard (and Donna) Behrends of East Peoria, Dennis (and Tina) Behrends of Washington, and his daughter Rebecca (and Rick) Wisner of East Peoria; six grandchildren, Rachel (and Jon) Omerod of Marquette Heights, Stephanie Behrends of Washington, Haley (and Kyle) Hein of East Peoria, Casey (and Jake) Meisner of Sterling, CO, Myles Wisner of East Peoria, Diana Behrends of Tempe AZ; two great granddaughters, Leah and Lily Omerod; four sisters, Henrietta Goetz, Mable Heneberry, and Margaret Parrish, all of Peoria, Joann Lakis of Galesburg, and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Reaka Tutweiler, Lena Dentino, and Amelia Monroe and Gesina Sage and his step-father, John Cronin.
A memorial service for Henry will be held Monday, April 7, 2014 at 7PM at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in Washington. Pastor John Plunkett will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 5PM-7PM. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
