Obituary
WASHINGTON-Helen "Liz" Richards McGuire, 78, of Washington, IL, formerly of East Peoria and Deer Creek died at 1:26 PM Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at UnityPoint Health - Methodist in Peoria.
Born on October 3, 1935 in Berdan, IL to Delbert "John" and Catherine Mae Frech Richards, she married Bernard McGuire on September 3, 1955; he preceded her in death on May 14, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Richards.
Surviving are two sons, Dirk E. (Michelle) McGuire of East Peoria and Sidney M. McGuire of Deer Creek; two granddaughters, Carolyn (Levi) Harms of East Peoria and Kathryn McGuire of Bloomington; two great-grandsons, Caiden and Callen Harms; and her sister, E. Louise Atchison of St. Louis, MO.
Liz was a graduate of Illinois State University, Illinois Central College, and Eureka College, earning her bachelor's degrees in Art. She was a very gifted artist who expressed her talent through painting, drawing, sewing and crochet. Liz was a resident at the Grand Victorian Place in Washington for one year, where she enjoyed her fellow crossword puzzlers and pool players.
Grandma GiGi will be remembered for her brilliant blue eyes, her wild and crazy paintings and her quirky sense of humor.
As per her request, there will be no services. Cremation rites have been accorded. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eureka College.
