Obituary

Obituary Helen Jean Jones, 88, of East Peoria, IL died at 11:43 pm Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at her residence. Jean was born on July 5, 1928 in Denison, IA to Thomas William and Helen Louise Birkhofer Albert. She spent her early childhood on a farm and received her education at Denison Public Schools. She worked for the North Western Bell Telephone Co., in Des Moines before her marriage to Donald David Jones on January 1, 1949. They enjoyed 67 wonderful years together. Jean is survived by her husband Donald, son Guy Thomas (Sharon) Jones of Santa Ana, CA and son Steven David (Nancy) Jones of Metamora, IL; two grandchildren, Joanna Jones Walton of Metamora, IL and David Jones of Denver, CO; one sister, Billie Ann (Harold) Norris of Des Moines, IA; a brother-in-law, Stanley (Gertrude) Jones of Harlan, IA, many nieces and nephews, 4 step grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. Jean was a homemaker and loving wife and mother. Making their homes in Des Moines, Ankeny, Denison, Sac City, Whittemore, and Algona before moving to Mason City, Iowa in 1978. In March of 2016 they moved to East Peoria, IL to be closer to family. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for both of her sons, and also a Sunday School teacher. She worked side by side with her husband at the Whittemore Hatchery, which they owned. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, UMW, and was a charter member of the Mason City Lioness Club. She was also a 30 year member of the Manly Pioneer Town and Country Golf Club. A memorial service for Jean will be held at Crossroads United Methodist Church in Washington, IL on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11am. Her body has been donated to the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa for scientific purposes. Inurnment will be at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Denison, IA. Memorials may be made to the Tower Fund at First United Methodist Church in Mason City, Iowa. Memorial Service AUG 27. 11:00 AM Crossroads United Methodist Church 1420 N.
