Obituary Washington- Helen L. Cook, 85, of Washington, IL, died at 11:42 AM, Friday, September 28, 2012 at her residence in Washington. Helen was born on January 18, 1927 in Rutland, VT to George T. Mordue and Harriet E. Sawyer. She married Lester J. Cook on October 23, 1964 in Peoria, IL. Lester preceded Helen in death on February 7, 2010. Surviving Helen are 4 sons, Jerry (Linda) Bailey of Pekin, IL, Wayne Bailey, of Pekin, IL, Rickey (Deb) Gaumer of Somis, CA, and Gary Cook Sr. of Deer Creek, IL. Also surviving are 3 daughters, Gwynne (Lee) Pirtle of Benson, IL, Teresa (John) Lock of Washington, IL, Deb (Tom) Halpin of Pekin, IL, and 1 sister, Dorothy Floyd of Coden, AL. Helen is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Preceding Helen in death were 2 sons, James Michael Gaumer and Leslie Lee Cook, 2 sisters, 1 brother, and her parents. Helen worked several jobs while helping support her family, the more recent was working at Ben Franklins in Washington for several years. Helen's most important job of all was being a loving wife and mother. Along with trips to the Par-A-Dice, Helen also enjoyed reading and life. Cremation rites have been accorded. The family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date.
