Obituary EAST PEORIA--Hazel Ella Shelley, 88, of 500 Centennial Drive, East Peoria, formerly of Mary Street, Washington, died at 8:30 P.M. on November 16, 2006 at Manor Care-Riverview in East Peoria. She was born February 12, 1918 in Peoria, to George and Esther (Larson) Saltsman. Hazel married Howard Sentz in 1936 in Peoria and then married Donald Shelley September 11, 1943 in Peoria, Illinois. Hazel was a graduate of Manual High School Class of 1935 and was a lifelong resident of the Peoria area. She was supervisor of Caterpillar's Cafeteria 1942-1945 and a devoted housewife thereafter. She was a member of Business Women's Association and the East Peoria Woman's Club. She was a devoted member of Mount Olive Missionary Church and spent twenty-five years as a choir member, and was also a Sunday school teacher and director of Daily Vacation Bible School, receiving special recognition for the number of children she taught. She also served as President of the Women's Missionary Society. She later transferred her membership to the 1st Church of Nazarene in Peoria to join her husband, and continued her steadfastness as a dedicated member, prayer warrior, and member of the Senior Adult Ministries. She was voted number one grandma by her grand and great grandkids and will truly be missed. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. She is survived by a sister, Georgetta (William) Saathoff of East Peoria, and daughters, Jan (Frank) Borror of East Peoria, and Susan (Michael) Malloy of Apache Junction, Arizona. She is also survived by five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, November 20, 2006 at the First Church of the Nazarene, 5504 North University Avenue, Peoria. Pastor Gary Davey will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Deiters Funeral Home in East Peoria is in charge of arrangements.
