Obituary
Harold "Butch" Sommer, 73, of East Peoria, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at his residence.
Butch was born on December 17, 1942 in Peoria to Raymond A. and Mildred A. Nieukirk Sommer.
He married Eldonna Kolesar on March 30, 1963 in East Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving is his son, Adam Sommer of East Peoria; brother, Louis (Bernice) Sommer of East Peoria; three grandsons, Nicholas A. (Myra) Sommer of Peoria Heights, Jesse Tyler Sommer of East Peoria, and Isaac Bloom of Canton; and great-grandchildren, Ravien, Conor, and Alice Sommer.
Butch was preceded in death by two children, Tony and Sarah; his parents; two brothers, Ray and Glen; three sisters, Phyllis, Carol and twin sister, Harriet.
For 25 years, Butch worked in the Foundry for Caterpillar as an inspector and later worked at Morton Parts for 10 years, retiring in 1998.
During his retirement, he worked as a courier for Busey Bank.
He was a member of the UAW Local #974.
Butch enjoyed camping, boating and John Wayne movies. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Memorial contributions may be made to TAPS in Pekin.
A private Celebration of Life service for Butch will be held at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. An inurnment will be held at a later date at Fondulac Township Cemetery in East Peoria.
