Obituary

Obituary East Peoria - Harold T. Fogelmark, 87, an East Peoria resident for over 80 years, died at 9:15 AM Wednesday July 17, 2013 at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on December 19, 1925 in Peoria to Charles Herman and Frances Vivian Maze Fogelmark. He married Norma Saurs on June 15, 1947 in East Peoria. She preceded him in death on June 27, 2000 in East Peoria. He was also preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are one son, James (Lynne) Fogelmark of East Peoria and one daughter, Sandy (Ed) Graber of Morton. Also surviving are five grandchildren; Matt (Kelly) Fogelmark, Traci (Kevin) Schermerhorn, Josh (Sheila) Graber, Trisha (Mike) Kaluza, Blake(Molly Nelson) Clayton and eleven great-grandchildren; Jordynne Fogelmark, Brandon Fogelmark, Jake Nimesgern, Ashley Nimesgern, Tyler Schermerhorn, AJ Schermerhorn, Haley Kaluza, Layton Kaluza, Austin Clayton, Garrett Clayton and Eli Sering. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, serving on a South Pacific tanker from 1944-1946. Harold was a graduate of Bradley University, where he received his BA in 1950 and his MS in 1959 with 15 credits left over. He had been a season ticket holder for Bradley Braves Basketball since 1982 and was a member of the Bradley Alumni Association. He worked thirty-five years as an Administrator for District 86 in East Peoria, working as a teacher at Richland Grade School, as a teacher and principal for the original Glendale School, as a teacher and principal for Washington School, as a principal at the new Glendale School, as a principal of Central Junior High School, as a principal at Woodrow Wilson School, and retiring as Director of Special Programs and Projects. He was a member of the Illinois Education Association and had served as President of the Tazewell County School Administrators. He served the City of East Peoria endlessly. For twenty years, he served as a City Commissioner, and was the Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Committee and the Finance and Development Committee and was a member of the East Peoria Housing Authority. As a Commissioner, he was most proud that he never missed a city council meeting in his 20 years of service. He was a past recipient of East Peoria Citizen of the Year Award in 1998. He was a member of the East Peoria Optimist Club and the East Peoria Historical Society where he had served as President. He served as Fondulac Park District Conservation Commissioner, was on the Board of Directors for the Festival of Lights, and served on the Board of Eastlight Theatre, where he had been a season ticket holder since its inception and was on the Board of Directors for Channel 22 in East Peoria. Harold also served as an Administration Board Chairman and Trustee Chairman for Hansel and Gretel Daycare, enjoyed serving as an election judge, was a Red Cross 106 unit donor, and was a member of Eastside Center. Harold also coached Little League Baseball and was an avid New York Yankees fan. He most enjoyed watching all types of sports, drinking coffee with his friends and most of all, spending time with his family. Harold was also a member of First United Methodist Church of East Peoria for over 50 years. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM on Monday July 22, 2013 at his church. Pastor Bob Phillips will officiate. There will be a visitation from 2-7 PM on Sunday July 21, 2013 at Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory in East Peoria and half hour prior to the service at the church.
